3D Modeling
3D Modeling Reflection
For my 3D modeling project I chose to do a cat. My idea come from my family nickname, I'm referred to as "meow" by most of my relatives. When I was a baby my crib was next to a window that we kept open most nights. My mom would check on me in the middle of the night and find cats in my crib! They were basically raising me as their own. I've never had my own cat, but I've always felt connected to this animal. They still seem to be drawn to me because both my friends cats and random strays are always eager to say hi and quick to get comfortable. I also added glasses because I feel like they're one of my defining features.
I used the program Tinkercad and found it fairly easy to use! I wish the interface was easier to move around (this is especially frustrating as someone who makes art on a tablet) but overall it was easy to navigate. I enjoyed the pre-made shapes and utilized those-- they even had glasses! I had to get creative on more organic shapes like the tail, so I decided to use the text tool and typed the letter "S" for my tail. The scribble tool wasn't giving me the smooth look I wanted.
In the classroom I would adapt this project to have a more broad theme. I like the idea of using 3D modeling to create functional objects that are enhanced by the precision and specificity of this medium. I'd create a lesson plan for creating an object that improves or simplifies everyday life or a specific task. However using this medium to create unique, sculptural object is a great alternative route to go!
